The long awaited execution of
Ajmal Kasab has once again brought the Indian justice system under the scanner.
If one is to abide by the idiom of, “justice denied is justice delayed”, the
Indian courts would seem to be largely dysfunctional. Even in cases like that
of Kasab, where the court proceedings were conducted quite expeditiously, the
implementation of capital punishment took a long time. It is noteworthy that
many more, including the assassins of a former Prime Minister are awaiting
their tryst with the gallows. This is a dismal
state of affairs in our country. The lack of will power on the part of the
Government coupled with crude tokenism from the opposition parties. The media is
playing into the hands of these inefficient politicians by speculating on the
timing of the execution and the political ramifications, rather than showcasing
the bigger picture. Do we need to politicize anything and everything????
