Life of Pi - A feast for the senses…

The latest 3D offering from Hollywood is an absolute winner.. While the technology makes the film a visual treat, the story and the direction makes it a feast for both mind and brain. Life of Pi is a complete package that showcases the inborn survival instincts of a human being and the basic wild instincts of a majestic Bengal Tiger. The actors, including the tiger and other animals have contributed their best to this marvelous movie. The climax leaves the viewer wondering which among the two versions of the journey is convincing....

National security – Indian version..

While many have suspected India to be a soft target for all species that come under the tag, “terrorist”, the UP government has served further evidence for the same. Take a look at this article which appeared in The New Indian Express yesterday.

This kind of reckless and irresponsible behavior is all the more shocking when it comes from a government which is led by one of the young “leader” of this country. Where are we headed as a nation??

The execution...

The long awaited execution of Ajmal Kasab has once again brought the Indian justice system under the scanner. If one is to abide by the idiom of, “justice denied is justice delayed”, the Indian courts would seem to be largely dysfunctional. Even in cases like that of Kasab, where the court proceedings were conducted quite expeditiously, the implementation of capital punishment took a long time. It is noteworthy that many more, including the assassins of a former Prime Minister are awaiting their tryst with the gallows. This is a dismal state of affairs in our country. The lack of will power on the part of the Government coupled with crude tokenism from the opposition parties. The media is playing into the hands of these inefficient politicians by speculating on the timing of the execution and the political ramifications, rather than showcasing the bigger picture. Do we need to politicize anything and everything????

Another true leader bids adieu…

Love him or hate him, no one can deny the fact that Bal Thackerey was a true leader. He was courageous and always stood for his own beliefs, qualities that were abandoned a long time ago by his peers. Thackerey’s brand of politic s was not limited to mere lip service. His firm resolve helped him convert his thoughts into tangible action. At a time when majority of Indian polity shied away from clarity on critical issues, Thackerey offered unambiguous and firm opinions. He was never apologetic about his core convictions. Our current bunch of leaders could learn so much from Thackerey's leadership qualities. If only they could keep the ideological differences aside and look at the functional side of the one and only Bal Thackerey...

The last two decades witnessed other right wing parties including the BJP losing focus. So much so that BJP has started resembling the Indian National Congress not only in the total lack of creativity and dynamism, but also in terms or corruption and ideological stagnancy. India is a big country in terms of its mere size, human resource and resilience. But, we also need leaders with courage, vision and dignity who are in touch with the grssroots of this great nation. Here is hoping for the best....

In a positive mood...

The days are getting colder at my part of the world, and so is the professional pressure. I needed this change badly and am enjoying it while I can. Learning new language, spending time with youngsters who often give the oldies a run for their money when it comes to handling tough situations and life's nasty surprises.

I am settling into a routine which will allow me some time to spend on reading and blogging. Hopefully, I will be able to blog more often and also move on to more serious writing....
