India is hosting the BRICS summit at New Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam on 12–13 September 2026, following its successful presidency of the G20 two years ago. The summit takes place against a turbulent international backdrop marked by two protracted conflicts and volatile US policy shifts under President Trump regarding trade tariffs and global security.

Navigating these headwinds, New Delhi has achieved a significant diplomatic breakthrough by forging consensus on a joint declaration. Bringing regional rivals like Saudi Arabia and Iran to the same table highlights India’s unique geopolitical bridging power—underpinned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar’s strategic non-alignment. Guided by an "India First" doctrine, India has firmly maintained its autonomy rather than endorsing Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine.

Nevertheless, strong bilateral ties between New Delhi and Moscow persist, as reflected in three meetings between PM Modi and President Vladimir Putin over the past three weeks. Another critical milestone is the pact to promote trade settlement in local currencies across BRICS economies. While New Delhi previously resisted similar proposals a year ago, intensifying global tariff pressures have driven member states to recalibrate their economic strategies.

Concurrently, Beijing appears increasingly receptive to constructive engagement with New Delhi, evidenced by the imminent resumption of direct commercial flights between the two Asian giants. The summit's optics have been equally striking: visuals of Prime Minister Modi walking hand-in-hand with the Iranian President served as a strong symbol of strategic autonomy and non-alignment. Furthermore, today's open discussion forum—elevated by the presence of the UN Secretary-General—provides an added layer of multilateral legitimacy.

As the summit concludes, the international community—most notably Washington—will be closely watching the final declarations and the strategic realignment they signal.

My nation celebrated 79th Independence Day on 15th August. The Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi hoisted the tricolor and addressed the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort. This year's speech had a strong undercurrent of a confident country on the move. Since last few years, Bharath has adopted the Nation First Policy and has followed it unabashedly. To put it bluntly, we do not care what other countries preach. We have a nation to build and we are steadfastly doing it brick by brick. Tariffs, sanctions and other punitive measures can not deter us from our path. And yes, if the world force us to fight a war, we are ready.  The worrisome factor is irresponsible opposition that we have elected. Raul Vinci has long since been engaged in destructive politics. But, we have the RSS to serve and save our nation from such demonic conspirators. The Prime Minister mentioning RSS in his Independence Day speech is a fitting tribute to the world's biggest social organization.

The national media ignoring critical issues....

We Keralites often complain about the step-motherly treatment meted out to our little state by the Central Government.
