Today’s Malayala Manorama – Kozhikode edition has a report regarding an Alsatian dog found abandoned in the city yesterday. The doggie is almost 6 years old and has an injury near its ear. The doggie has been apparently deserted by its owners because of this injury. Last month also another foreign breed doggie was similarly found abandoned in the city. This one had injured its leg and was unable to move about on its own. This was a much expensive breed and the civic body’s attempt to auction the pet was unsuccessful twice. These incidents make one feel ashamed about the lack of compassion and gratitude towards fellow beings. This may not be so shocking, keeping in mind the scant disregard that we show towards the elders and disabled people among us. The utter disregard for civic manners and responsibilities displayed by the upwardly mobile city dwellers is shocking. The road accidents have been a major cause of anxiety for a long time now. The pathetic condition of roads, the flagrant disregard for traffic rules and the in-built arrogance of we mallus are all contributing factors to this sad state of affairs. Add to this the over speeding buses (both private and KSRTC ), the tipper lorries and other commercial vehicles that speed through our roads, we have a perfect recipe for disaster. For us a road is a multipurpose utility which doubles up as road + footpath + drainage + waste bin. Day before yesterday, I was returning home for lunch from my office at Mavoor road in Kozhikode on my Pulsar bike. My destination was my home near Civil station, and I was riding through Arayidathupalam – Eranhipalam road. When I was passing through near Kalipoika , I noticed a spanking new Hundai Accent cruising well above the speed limits in my rear view mirror. Like the rest of the nation, malayalees too like their movies.Movies with good story, script and direction have always succeeded in the box office, regardless of the star value, I dare say.Still time and again, we come across instances that reveal the crisis in malayalam film industry.The MACTA - Dileep controversy is the latest one. Without going in to the details of the issue, as an ordinary malayalee , I feel most of the characters in this story have shown highly irresponsible, and more importantly un -professional attitude.I cant help noticing that, Kerala has become a state where controversies rule the day.So much energy and time is spent on controversies, even by the media.For a state which is reeling under rampant price rise, low growth rate and poor fiscal management, the limelight is often hogged by controversies which follow one after the other in quick succession. 

I just finished reading this book. It took me 2 years to finish the reading.I started reading the book around December 2006. I read about half of it, and one of my friends borrowed the book for himslef. It was almost a year later that I got it back.  I had to start all over again.Finally last Saturday, I finished reading the book. The Innocent Man by John Grisham is the author's first non-fictional work.The story is about a man wrongly convicted of rape and murder. The jury awards death sentence to Ron Williams for a crime he did not commit. The story is all about the shoddy police work and unjust judicial system.  I was more worried by the fact that the real-life incident happened in USA, a nation that prides in its free, just and non-discrininate society.

I love reading a lot and I am posting some of the books in my shelf here. Some of these books have challenged me as a reader and made me look into my own mind and introspect. Most of these books are novels and have entertained and enriched me in many ways. Inviting comments from avid readers. I am also interested in writing, browsing and listening to music.
